Sterling seeks controlling interests in middle-market private companies through equity investments ranging from $25M to $150M. The firm will make larger equity investments of up to $500M with co-investors in select education platforms. We align mutual interests, and either partner with proven industry executives searching for a new platform or founders who seek a balance between liquidity and retaining an ownership interest for participation in future growth. Our background in operations, strategy and finance combined with our domain expertise in education, direct marketing, healthcare services, specialty distribution and manufacturing, and business services allows us to significantly accelerate growth across our network of portfolio companies. Our extensive global network enables our management teams to forge new commercial partnerships, recruit outstanding management talent, and attract seasoned board members.
Our fifth middle-market Sterling fund, SCP III, closed in June 2007 with $1 billion in limited partner commitments from both existing limited partners and new investors from across the U.S., Europe and Asia. SCP III has followed the same disciplined investment focus as SCP's prior funds, and we will continue to adhere to our proven approach with new funds in the future. Key to our ongoing success in our middle-market funds is our differentiated strategy, commitment to excellence and portfolio performance.
