SusieCakes CEO Named EY Entrepreneur of the Year

Susan Sarich, CEO of SusieCakes, a Sterling Partners portfolio company, has been named an Entrepreneur of the Year – Greater Los Angeles area, by Ernst and Young “EY.” Sarich is this year’s only female recipient in the Greater Los Angeles area.

Sarich opened the first SusieCakes in 2006 and in April of this year she opened her 18th store in Dallas, Texas, her first store outside of California. After a storied career in hospitality, working for both Hyatt Hotels and House of Blues, Sarich opened her first location with the support and investment of family and friends. The store was cash-flow positive in just six months. Sterling Partners took notice and invested in the company in 2012.

Today, SusieCakes remains one of the only bakeries that features all‑American, “back-to-basics” items that are cooked daily from scratch, with real ingredients and in every store. SusieCakes donates end-of-day products to various local groups and organizations, sponsors and supports hundreds of nonprofit events that focus on local children’s education and female causes, and hosts local community events, such as Susie’s Smart Cookies, in which children can bring “A” report cards in exchange for free cookies. Inspired by conversations over baked goods with her grandmothers, SusieCakes’ mission is “Connecting through Celebration,” and every decision is made with that in mind.

“We’re so proud of Susan for winning this prestigious award. Her entrepreneurial spirit and intense passion for her business is what drew us to SusieCakes in the first place,” said Steven Taslitz, Founder and Chairman of Sterling Partners. “Susan is extremely deserving of this award and we look forward to our continued partnership, as she works to expand the business to serve new geographies and customers.”
