Des Werthman joined Sterling Fund Management in 2017, where he is currently employed, and serves as the President of Sterling Partners Quantitative Investments. Prior to Sterling, Des was the Founder, CIO, and Managing Member of Madra Asset Management. Before starting Madra, he was the Head of Manager Research and Co-CIO at Coast Asset Management, a $7 billion fund of hedge funds. While at Coast, Des was responsible for, among other things, overseeing the firm wide manager selection and due diligence process, portfolio level risk monitoring and hedging, as well as overseeing a team of seven analysts. Des also served as the Director of Alternative Research at the Bank of Montreal where he oversaw the due diligence process and risk management for a multibillion-dollar portfolio of commodity trading advisors.
Des graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. in Political Science, was captain of the football team, member of the Columbia Sports Hall of Fame, and a member of the All Century Team.
